Sydney/NSW Trains: the latest

Mar 1, 2018News

Workplace tours to discuss the current Sydney and NSW Trains offer the NSW Government has put on the table are still underway. A copy of the schedule can be found here.

These workplace meetings, which includes a presentation by the management, followed by a discussion with your combined union team, has been an opportunity for you to hear first-hand what is on offer and to ask questions and provide feedback on the proposed offer, before the ballot commences. All members have been, and are encouraged to attend where possible. Management is not in the room during the union discussions, so it is a good time for a full and frank discussion about where things are up to.

It has been brought to our attention that the document mailed out directly to their employees by Sydney and NSW Trains does contain a number of errors. The RTBU has insisted management needs to advise employees about these errors, prior to the vote commencing.

In the most recent meetings, Sydney and NSW Trains are now threatening staff that if there is a no vote, they will move to put employees back onto the 2014 enterprise agreement and deed, and that of the all additional conditions negotiated as part of the current process will be taken off the table.

Whilst Sydney and NSW Trains can say whatever they want to, it is important to note that these are your wages and conditions – it’s important you have your say. No matter which way you intend to vote, the important thing is that you do take the time to vote.

Travel passes

Many members have been asking for specific details about how the travel pass clause in the enterprise agreement will work. Click here to see a FAQ document created by Sydney and NSW Trains which provides an overview of the travel pass plan.

If you have any further questions about any of the areas of the offer, please contact your local delegate or call the RTBU head office.

Next steps

As well as attending workplace meetings, your RTBU negotiating delegates will also be meeting tomorrow in our office to discuss members’ feedback and to decide what our next steps should be for our union.

Stay tuned for an update on this soon.

As always, if you have any questions about the current process, contact your local delegate or the RTBU office. These are your conditions and wages, so it is important you are fully engaged and informed.
