Women in Male Dominated Occupations & Industries (WIMDOI) Conference 2015

May 14, 2015RTBU News

Women are vastly outnumbered by men in our industry. While some progress has been made we still have a long way to go to ensure equal representation in our workplaces.

Five representatives from the RTBU attended the Wimdoi – Women in Male Dominated Occupations & Industries Conference in Sydney last week, joining women from many different male dominated industries and professions, including construction workers, correctional officers, wharfies, firefighters and miners.

The timing of the conference couldn’t have been better as it came just the week after RTBU NSW’s Women’s Campaigns Committee met to discuss female participation in the transport industry and in the union.

The 3-day conference was a chance to share personal stories, discuss what the barriers are for women entering these industries, the challenges they face when they do, and strategies to recruit and retain women in traditionally male workforces.
