Update – CA to CSA 1 Dispute

To:       Sydney Trains CSD Cleaning Attendants Members,

Many members would be aware that we have been escalating the issue of Station Cleaner Attendants (CA) being reclassified as Customer Service Attendants 1 (Cleaning) (CSA1) through the Dispute Settlement Procedures.

Sydney Trains response to the dispute settlement procedure has been to constantly request further information even going so far to suggest that they will allow for some union delegates to go out and collect more data.

We believe that we have provided sufficient information to support the dispute.

It is disingenuous for Sydney Trains to send out Customer Area Managers (CAMs) with incorrect information and going so far as to inform our members that “we have settled the dispute and this cannot be resolved until the new Enterprise Agreement is negotiated”.

This is clearly not the case as we have rights under the existing industrial instrument and we will exercise them as we see fit and our members will determine when the matter is settled.

The RTBU position is very clear, we know cleaners are performing customer service duties as a result of changes in the business, for which they are not being paid or recognised. This is unjust and unfair.

We now have no option except to escalate this dispute to the Fair Work Commission and seek assistance in resolving this matter.
