Sydney Trains advises of a Staff Review LICs Operators
Bulletin No: 12/2017
To: RTBU LICs, Signaller and Area Controller Members,
A meeting was held with Sydney Trains on Wednesday 12th April 2017 and at the commencement of the meeting we were informed of the intention to commence a staff review on the Line Information Controllers (LICs) Operators. It was stated that the review was needed due to the consolidation of panels and as a result the varying workloads and geographical areas of control.
We raised a number of concerns, which also included the inadequate consultation period.
In addition we were not given any supporting documentation that is being relied upon by them for basis for the staff review or any information on how it will impact on our LICs members directly but also on the possible impact on Signallers and Area Controllers.
During the meeting we were shown a power point slide which outlined the proposed changes and advised that Management would be holding workplace meetings from today (12th April 2017) commencing at Liverpool.
Your representatives presented Sydney Trains with a number of questions such as;
- What is the review process?
- Which LICs roles and signalling locations will be affected?
- What arrangements are being made for impact staff?
- What is being relied upon to support the proposed amalgamation?
Sydney Trains further stated that the RTBU representatives would not be permitted to attend meetings in their capacity as RTBU Delegates, effectively locking out your union representatives from the meeting.
We argued that this was unjust and not consulting by ‘good faith’ a point that was reluctantly agreed by management and we then asked to have your representatives released to attend the meetings.
We will send out further updates as more information becomes available.
