RTBU update on the government’s deed and Thursday’s industrial action

Aug 24, 2022Media releases

Media release, 24 August 2022: The RTBU is going through the contents of an 11th hour deed provided by the NSW Government, which the union received less than ten minutes before it was announced by the Minister during a press conference.

Rail, Tram and Bus Union (RTBU) NSW Secretary, Alex Claassens, said the RTBU will now go through its usual democratic processes and consult with its delegates on the new deed. The late timing of the new deed means all industrial action planned for tomorrow will still go ahead as planned.

Tomorrow’s action involves staff from the City Circle + Redfern lines from 10am – 4pm.

Rail, Tram and Bus Union (RTBU) NSW Secretary Alex Claassens has dismissed a claim from Minister Tudehope that the NSW Government had come to the agreement six weeks ago.

“If there was a signed agreement six weeks ago, we could have avoided the back-and-forth negotiations with a revolving door of Ministers.

“Now that a deed has finally been received, we will go through our usual democratic processes and discuss the situation with our elected delegates.

“The government knows that it has given us this new deed far too late for any actions planned for tomorrow.

“All the actions planned for Thursday have been designed to have minimal impact on commuter services.
