RTBU INFRASTRUCTURE DIVISION DISPUTE – OVERHEAD VISUAL INSPECTION SYSTEM
RTBU Electrical Division Delegates have notified Sydney Trains that the RTBU is now in dispute in relation to the “Overhead Visual Inspection System” based at Granville.
The dispute surrounds the operation, training and remuneration in regards to this system’s use and its utilisation in inspecting overhead wiring defects, as well as technical issues in its ability to correctly capture defects.
The fact that a full time position was created to conduct these reviews and has still not been filled was also a concern for our members, who have been asked to attend training sessions at Granville.
Another concern that was raised was the responsibility of our members “signing off” lengths of OHW as defect free when this was, at times, exceedingly difficult to ascertain some types of defects with the available equipment.
RTBU delegates, Paul Wallace (Lawson) and Steven Gauci (Glenfield) and RTBU organisers attended a meeting with management to discuss the dispute on Wednesday 6th February at Granville.
The discussions were productive and your delegates made a clear case as to why concerns about the use of this system were being raised.
A second meeting is being arranged with Sydney trains management to discuss a way forward with this issue.
The RTBU will keep our Electrical Division members updated with the progress of this dispute.
If any of our members have questions or queries regarding the dispute or any other matters of concern don’t hesitate to contact Jonathan Parker on 0418 166 742 or via email at infrastructure@rtbu-nsw.asn.au
