Productivity and Site Allowance Dispute – North Shore Project
Bulletin: 31/18
To: All Infrastructure Members: Laing O’Rourke
Today, our RTBU team was at the Fair Work Commission to secure the productivity allowance for members working on the North Shore Project (the project).
This has been part of a long fight to make Laing O’Rourke do the right thing. After months of our delegates talking with members’ onsite, meeting with management and trying to get a reasonable outcome, our RTBU team took the issue to the Commission to get help in fixing it. After meetings overseen by a Commissioner, it appeared that management would finally honour their commitments. However, instead they decided to hide behind lawyers and nonsensical arguments in order to avoid paying what they owed.
Now that the Commissioner has heard arguments by the RTBU team and Laing O’Rourke management, the Commissioner has adjourned the hearing. The Commissioner will now make a decision and that could take at least 8 weeks.
Your RTBU team will continue to update you as more information becomes available including when the next hearing has been set.
All RTBU members should congratulate the courage of their delegates and fellow members who turned up to the Commission today in a message to management that we members are united on this issue and will fight to the end.
If you want to be part of winning a better deal at Laing O’Rourke you need to be a union member and ask your mates to join as well. To join, go to http://bit.ly/rtbujoin today!
