Stop Work Meeting tomorrow in Strike Area 2 & Bargaining Meeting Today

May 8, 2023
we will bargain together

Dear members,

Tomorrow RTBU members in Strike Area 2 will walk off the job between 1000hrs and 1600hrs. There are once again two time periods depending on your job.

1000hrs – 1400hrs: Drivers, Shunters, Infrastructure, Transport Officers, Fleet Maintenance, Cleaners

1200hrs – 1600hrs: Guards, On-Boarders, Station Staff, Salaried Staff, Shift Managers, Standards and Compliance, Trainers, any other members not covered by the 1000 – 1400 action.

We are holding a stop work meeting from 1200hrs until 1400hrs at Lidcombe Bowling Club.

There will be a BBQ with plenty of food, and we’ll be holding a meeting to update members on the current status of negotiations, with an opportunity to ask questions at the end.

Come along and show some solidarity as we continue our fight for fair conditions and a safe rail network against a Government that continues to show us all disrespect.

Bargaining Meeting Today

Today, Sydney Trains and NSW Trains called an impromptu bargaining meeting with next to no notice. Assuming it would be an important step forward, we made special arrangements to make sure our EA bargaining team could attend.

Unfortunately, it was just more of the same. Members will recall that the NSW Government and management have backtracked on several previously agreed claims. Although some claims were reinstated today (Carers Leave, Domestic Violence Leave, and Infrastructure Meal Allowance), all other backflipped claims remain outstanding.

Once again, we asked them why they had backflipped, and who was responsible for it. We were again met with no answers, and simply a statement that “this is our position”. In bargaining, decision makers need to be at the bargaining table, and information needs to be produced relating to bargaining positions. This is called bargaining in “good faith”.

This management team and Government seem tied up in their own controversies and are incapable of bargaining in good faith.

This is why we need to continue to escalate our industrial action. As long as we all stick together and do our bit, we won’t be beaten.

In Unity,
RTBU NSW
