Onboard Staff: Security on Regional Trains (Update)
Bulletin 44 – 2017
To: Onboard Staff
RTBU Delegates Jo Clark and Tracy Sanderson met with NSW Trains management on Monday 28th August to address security on Regional Trains.
Your delegates put forward a proposal to have police officers at Sydney terminal to assess passengers joining the train as well as the platform managers currently used by NSW Trains.
Your delegates requested that police travel on the train to Gosford or Wyong, Campbelltown or further if required. They also requested that if police or the PSS have any concerns with individuals or groups they can get additional police to visit the train at a location further along the track.
It is important that all staff who see any type of anti-social behaviour to report by filling out an “SIR”.
NSW Trains also advised that members will be able to lodge a “SRS” (Security Response System) on the Tellus APP.
Next Steps
NSW Trains will have discussions with the Police Command to put forward your proposal.
Delegates at Albury, Dubbo and Grafton need to talk to your local managers about this draft security plan and make any changes needed to improve members’ safety.
Authorised officer training will also commence this month which will assist with safety on trains.
