Northern beaches bus drivers under siege: vote of no confidence in STA
Bus drivers on Sydney’s northern beaches are in fear for their safety after a spate of incidents involving youth gangs, with inaction prompting a vote of no confidence by drivers in State Transit Authority (STA) management.
More than 10 individual drivers from the Mona Vale and Brookvale depots have reported complaints involving youths spitting, harassing and abusing drivers and even making threats against their families.
In one recent incident the whole Mona Vale bus depot had to be put in lock down when it was targeted by the gang.
The union is concerned the festive season will only see drunken and anti-social behaviour on pubic transport increase and attacks on bus drivers escalate.
The Bus and Tram Division has called on STA to immediately introduce security guards on all L90 buses on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights from 7pm to ensure the safety of drivers and passengers.
