New transport timetable causing commuter chaos
The NSW Government’s new train timetable is turning the state’s transport system into a shambolic mess, with poor planning resulting in cancelled services and regularly delayed trains.
Rail, Tram and Bus Union (RTBU) NSW Secretary, Alex Claassens, said the timetable is also potentially putting the safety of commuters at risk with decreased windows for track and fleet maintenance.
“Commuters are being forced to deal with transport chaos on a daily basis as a result of this terribly put together timetable,” Mr Claassens said.
“Cancelled and late services are becoming all too common a sight on our rail network. Management is scrambling to come up with daily excuses for the mess, but the reality is it’s all to do with a poorly put together timetable.
“Rail workers are concerned that the NSW Government’s new train timetable is putting the safety of commuters at serious risk. The pressure the new timetable is putting on the system has the potential to impact on other areas of the transport network such as cleaning, fleet maintenance, training and facilities. There’s a real danger essential services will be pared back to unmanageable levels.”
