Martin Place rally sends strong message to Premier

Dec 16, 2019News

Hundreds of commuters have stood shoulder to shoulder with the union movement to keep Our Buses Public.

On 2nd December 500 people rallied outside Premier Gladys Berejiklian’s office to protest the sale of our bus operations to private companies. The diversity of attendees is clear evidence that privatisation affects us all, commuters and workers alike.

At the rally we heard from unions, academics, politicians and members of the public, all crying out for the preservation of public transport, which is the future of our city.

This Liberal government is hellbent on privatizing all our public services, knowing all the while that this will reduce their quality, making them more expensive and harder to access. We cannot allow this to continue, and we have a whole movement behind us.

At the rally, we delivered over 11,000 signatures to Labor Opposition Leader Jodi Mackay – enough to ensure the privatisation of our buses is debated in NSW Parliament next year.

This is only the beginning. If we fight together, we will win.
