Keep and Grow Good Regional Community Jobs
Petition- signalling jobs
The NSW Government acknowledges the importance of preserving regional jobs in the NSW economy through government policies and the direct impact this policy has on the community. However, contrary to this policy, Sydney Trains a public owned corporation has decided to centralise over 110 regional jobs to Homebush. This decision significantly affects workers who have diligently performed signalling duties, ensuring a safe network for their fellow workers and passengers for many years and supporting safe freight traffic for local produce from farmers. They are now left with the difficult choice of either travelling an extra 4+ hours a day or facing redundancy, as very few Sydney Trains positions are available in regional areas. Regional areas deserve good community jobs, and astonishingly, Sydney Trains and Transport for NSW (TfNSW) treat these valuable positions with utter carelessness. If these signalling positions are centralised, it will be unlikely that people in regional areas will be able to relocate or travel to Homebush for these jobs. Additionally, these workers are extremely well skilled with many years of experience that keeps our railways safe for all. We all know that people living in Country New South Wales already face many difficulties, especially given the current economic situation. Communities cannot afford to lose government jobs, including Rail sector workers. We urge you to take a stand and sign this petition. Your support is crucial in our fight to preserve these signalling jobs in regional areas, including Broadmeadow, Gosford, Wollongong, Lithgow, and Blacktown. Please sign the petition and help us protect these jobs.
