Employee and Customer Safety Put at Risk – Again!
Bulletin 33 –
In yet another watering down of safety Sydney Trains have determined that they are about to reduce or eliminate altogether, private security services at some Sydney Trains’ stations.
Sydney Trains’ Management have made this determination based on “so called” statistics and records showing a significant reduction in crimes and related incidents at stations.
Management have been requested to provide this “so called” statistics and records that they have used as the rationale behind their decision, naturally this was refused. Sydney Trains Management has used the “convenience” of “confidentiality” as their excuse to provide this detail.
They did however provide a complete list of the (27) stations that currently have some level of private security and have indicated what changes will come into effect.
Stations Having “NO” Change | Stations Having Security “Completely Removed” | Stations Having a “Reduction” in the Level of Security |
Bankstown | Ashfield | Blacktown |
Edmondson Park | Cabramatta
Kings Cross | Campbelltown
Leppington | Fairfield | |
Lidcombe | Glenfield | |
Liverpool | Granville | |
Mt Druitt | Hornsby | |
Parramatta | Hurstville
Penrith | Macarthur | |
Richmond | Miranda | |
Strathfield | Punchbowl
Sutherland | Redfern | |
Sydenham | St Marys |
The RTBU has made our position quite clear to management that our members’ and customers’ safety is of paramount importance and we oppose any decision that has the potential to place this at risk.
A meeting between Sydney Trains Management, Union Delegates and Organisers has been arranged for tomorrow where this issue will be discussed further.
Members will be kept informed of this matter and should report and record any and all safety matters.
