Breaking news: NSW bus privatisation push hits road block
The NSW government’s plan to privatise some of Sydney’s bus services has hit a roadblock in the form of a petition signed by 10,000 people.
Rail, Tram and Bus Union members handed the petition to Opposition Leader Luke Foley and Greens transport spokesperson Mehreen Faruqi at the Burwood bus depot on Thursday.
The number of signatures means the privatisation push will have to be debated in state parliament.
The plan would see the contract for Bus Region 6 – which runs 233 routes from Olympic Park in the city’s west to Kensington in the city’s southeast – put out to private tender in an attempt to provide a more reliable service.
