BREAKING: Tomorrow’s light rail stoppages cancelled as workers reach in-principle agreement

28 May 2024, Media Release: The protected industrial action on Sydney’s light rail scheduled for tomorrow (Wednesday) has been cancelled after an in-principle agreement on a new enterprise agreement was achieved today.

Tram and Bus Division Secretary of the Rail, Tram and Bus Union NSW, David Babineau, said the in-principle agreement would provide Western Sydney light rail workers with pay parity and workers across the board with better wages and conditions.

As a result, all protected industrial action planned will no longer go ahead.

“This is in-principle agreement only and still needs to go to workers for a vote, but negotiations have come a long way today, thanks to the commitment of our light rail members,” Mr Babineau said.

“We never wanted to have to go down the path of industrial action, so it’s great news that we will no longer have to take action tomorrow.

“This is fantastic news for workers and commuters.”

The Tram and Bus Division of the RTBU will be meeting with members over the coming days to provide further detail on the in-principle agreement and to discuss next steps.
