Sydney & NSW Trains Members Secure Bank Holiday Rights

Bulletin 79 – 2017:

To: All RTBU Members,

We have secured our Bank Holiday rights. We will not be disadvantaged because the Bank Holiday is Sunday 31^st December 2017.

As New Year’s Eve falls on a Sunday, we told management that Bank Holiday payment should be paid at “double time and a half” for shift-workers. We said that for non shift-workers, Friday 29^th December should be recognised as the Bank Holiday and paid at “time and a half”.

Standing together, we got management to listen!

On the 19^th December, management agreed that:

• In circumstances where employees are regularly rostered to work weekends, Sunday 31 December 2017 will be recognised as the day in lieu of the Bank Holiday and will be paid double time and a half (250%). You will also get an additional day of leave paid at ordinary time that can accrue or be paid out;

• Where employees work only Monday to Friday, Friday 29 December 2017 will be observed as a day in lieu of the Bank Holiday and will be paid time and one half (150%). You will also get an additional day of leave paid at ordinary time that can accrue or be paid out.

• If you work the day but wish to accrue your additional day of leave, you must advise your manager and record this on your Time sheet otherwise it will be paid.
