Fast-rail soon to become a reality?
Apparently high-speed rail between Melbourne and Sydney is headed our way – and it will be privately run.
A proposal for a high-speed network that connects Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney and offers two-hour trips has been put forward by a private company called Consolidated Land and Rail Australia (CLARA). It includes plans to build eight new cities between the three cities and land deals have apparently already been struck in the regional areas.
The company says the $200 billion plan won’t cost taxpayers a cent in capital investment and the first stage would be up and running within a decade.

The RTBU would obviously be seeking a detailed consultation process on any project that will impact on members.
