Vale Jan Plichta

To: All RTBU Members;

The Executive of the RTBU regret to advise members of the passing of long time member and activist Jan Plichta.

Jan was an integral part of our union for many years holding positions on the Executive of the Administrative Committee, Finance Committee and Branch Council. He was a true passionate unionist that fought hard for members during times of great change in the rail industry. Jan’s compassion was second to none and he spent many years on the executive of the Welfare Fund ensuring workers were not left without when in financial hardship.

Jan was part of the former Revenue Protection unit and many rail workers owe their careers to the tenacious and clever bargaining he undertook to ensure Revenue Protection officers were not forced out of the industry when the unit wound up.

Jan was respected by unionists and management alike and his likeable and friendly demeanour will be missed by all who knew him.

Our thoughts and condolences go to Jan’s family and friends for their sad loss.

Jan’s funeral will be held on Thursday 8^th October 2015 at St Anthony’s Catholic Church; 54 Agin Court Road; Marsfield at 11am.
