Drivers to go 2.0 – mobility trial

Following the successful trial and eventual implementation of the use of iPads for Guards, Sydney Trains has now begun the consultation process with drivers.

It has been proposed that the same trial process undertaken for Guards would be instituted for drivers. This equates to 49 members across all age and computer literacy demographics participating in a consultation for several months with feedback and suggested improvements addressed prior to overall implementation.

The initial scope for usage of these devices would include submission of TSR’s and Hazard reports as well email capability and storage of relevant Sydney Trains manuals i.e. OSPs, Network rules etc.

Under the current limitations around the use of electronic devices (such as mobile phones) “in cab”, their overall application for drivers would be limited at this time unless the restrictions are reduced or modified.

Further meetings will be held to thrash out all associated issues and members will be kept informed as the matter progresses.
