Member bulletin: Fighting for Jobs at Transport for NSW

The RTBU is standing firm against the outrageous proposal to slash 950 jobs across Transport for NSW. These cuts are not just numbers on a page, they are real people, doing critical work to keep our transport system running for the people of NSW.

We are demanding urgent and transparent clarification from Transport about the rationale for these cuts. If there is a genuine issue to be addressed, then there must also be a genuine consultative process to explore alternatives, not this thinly veiled cost cutting exercise dressed up as reform and consultation that is just implementation with some performative advice.

We are no strangers to Transport. The RTBU has been here before and we are used to challenging the obfuscation and spin. We know the structures. We know the waste. And we know how to fight.

That’s why we’ve assembled a Fighting Team — a group of Transport Delegates ready to lead this fight with the strength and support of the RTBU members behind them.

This team will be working closely with the Union to:

• Push Transport to release the data and rationale behind these cuts
• Demand genuine consultation and time to consider alternative proposals
• Mobilise and engage members across the network to fight for every job

The RTBU will not accept a restructure that ignores the real cost to workers and the communities we serve because the Secretary says he has determined the best way to address the historic mismanagement of Transport for NSW  is to target workers.

We stand ready with our delegates, our members, and our fight.

We are exploring all options and are obtaining legal advice in relation to our next steps.
