Latest “OPAL Induced” Staff Cuts

To: All Sydney Trains Salespersons:

In a repeat of staff cuts announced around Christmas time last year it appears the “Grinch” has struck again with the announcement of the latest round of the NSW Liberal Government’s “OPAL induced” staff cuts.

The latest round of this conservative government initiated reforms is proposed to “cut” a further 70 positions, made up of Sales Account Team Leaders, Salespersons and SDM1s (support) whose primary role is ticket sales.

Management proposed to commence the review process on the 1st December, at (34) stations those being:

Bankstown 17th Dec Circular Quay 3rd Dec Kogarah 18th Dec Penrith 12th Dec Sydenham 18th Dec
Blacktown 12th Dec Epping 10th Dec Lakemba 17th Dec Redfern 8th Dec Town Hall 2nd Dec

Options available to affected staff are:

  • Voluntary Redundancy (VR)
  • Job Swaps (compliant with Government policy)
  • Apply for other positions through “Merit” selection
  • Displaced staff that do not gain another position and do not accept VR will be managed in accordance with the Sydney Trains “DEED” and the redeployment and separation policy.

Members are advised to actively participate in their reviews to ensure that any and all concerns and work related matters are captured and addressed during the review.
