Anzac Day: lest we forget

Apr 24, 2020RTBU News

Tomorrow, April 25th, we stop and commemorate the service and sacrifices of our veterans.

While the current situation means this year’s Anzac Day will need to be very different to previous years, that shouldn’t stop us from being able to take time out to pause and reflect.

There are a range of ways members can still mark Anzac Day, including:

There are a range of other suggestions here and here.

We know that Anzac Day is a very important occasion for many of our RTBU members and for our railway family broadly. Many railway and transport workers have lost their lives in wars over the years, including the 1,214 railway and transport workers lost their lives during World War I.

It’s also important to remember that many of you will be working on Anzac Day and across the long weekend.  To each and every one of you who are spending the day away from your family to keep our communities moving, our heartfelt thank you.

The role our transport workers play in our communities have never been more visible and more important. You’re the frontline, often making sacrifices of your own, for the benefit of everyone. If you’re out there working this weekend, thanks again – your hard work is not going unnoticed.
